NHBC Foundation Advisory Board  

The NHBC Foundation Advisory Board consists of senior representatives from around the industry with a wealth of expertise. They meet on a quarterly basis to discuss how best to focus the Foundation’s resources to support the industry and policymakers on housing issues.


Nick Raynsford MP Chairman of NHBC

Nick Raynsford MP- Chairman


Nick Raynsford has been the Member of Parliament for Greenwich and Woolwich since 1997 (Greenwich 1992-1997). He joined the Government in 1997 and held responsibility for housing, planning and construction as well as being Minister for London. He was Minister for Local and Regional Government in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister from 2001 to 2005. He was made a privy councillor in the 2001 New Year’s Honours. He left the Government in 2005.

Nick is Chairman of the Construction Industry Council and a Vice President of the Town and Country Planning Association. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Structural Engineers, the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Royal Town Planning Institute. He is President of the Labour Housing Group and Chairman of the NHBC Foundation, the National Centre for Excellence in Housing, the Fire Protection Association Council, the Centre for Public Scrutiny and the London Open House Supporters at Large Group. He is a Non-executive Director of Rockpools and of Hometrack.

 

Trevor Beattie

Trevor Beattie


Trevor Beattie is the Corporate Director for Strategy, Policy, Performance and Research at the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). Previously, Trevor was Head of the HCA Set-up Team, seconded from his role as Director of Corporate Strategy at English Partnerships.

Trevor joined English Partnerships at its inception in 1993, having worked on the legislation to create it as a member of the Inner Cities Policy Unit in what was then the Department of the Environment (DoE). He was responsible for DoE’s sponsorship of the London Docklands Development Corporation in the 1980s, was Private Secretary to four successive Ministers for Local Government and Inner Cities and was a member of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Coalfields Task Force.

 

Dr Peter Bonfield

Dr Peter Bonfield was appointed as Chief Executive of BRE in 2007. Dr Bonfield is a materials engineer with a PhD in wind energy and the design of turbine blades. His fifteen year career in construction has focused on driving innovation and improved sustainability across all construction sectors. He has led major initiatives in the areas of new build and existing housing, as well as in commercial and public sector buildings.

Over the last year Dr Bonfield has been on part-time secondment to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) where he has helped create the sustainable development strategy for the Olympics. His ODA role is as leader for the construction products to be used in the build programme for the games - this involves assessing products on the basis of best value, health and safety, risk and sustainability.

 

Professor John Burland

Professor John Burland


Following 14 years at BRE, John Burland was appointed to the Chair of Soil Mechanics at Imperial College London in 1980 where he is now Emeritus Professor.

In addition to being very active in teaching and research, he has been involved in the design of many large ground engineering projects including the stabilisation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. He has received many awards including the Gold Medals of the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Imtiaz Farookhi – Chief Executive of NHBC


Chief Executive of NHBC since 1997, Imtiaz was previously Chief Executive at Leicester City Council. He was a founder Board member of the Environment Agency and is currently a member of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation. In 2007 he was appointed to the Government’s 2016 Taskforce.

 

 

 

 

Neil Jefferson

Neil Jefferson


Neil has been seconded to the Zero Carbon Hub from NHBC, where he is General Manager. He is a Director of NHBC Services Ltd and previous roles at NHBC include Head of Registration and Regional Director.

Until recently Neil was also Managing Director of the National Centre for Excellence in Housing, a joint venture between BRE and NHBC - which has been instrumental in helping to deliver initiatives that have resulted in the development and building of low and zero carbon homes. This included recently facilitating the building of the Barratt Green House at the Innovation Park at BRE.

Neil has a degree in Building Surveying and is a Chartered Builder. Before joining NHBC, his early career was in private practice surveying and architectural practices.

 

Rod MacEachrane

Rod MacEachrane


Rod is a non-executive director of Barratt Homes and was previously NHBC Director of Claims and Group Director Operations before becoming an executive board member of NHBC and Commercial Director until 2006.  He is also actively involved with a number of initiatives within the industry and is Chairman of the Steering Group for the proposed Consumer Code for Homebuilders. 

 

 

Geoff Pearce

Geoff Pearce – Group Director of Development and Asset Management at East Thames Housing Association


Geoff Pearce rejoined East Thames HA in 2006, having worked for the Group in a senior capacity in the development team until 2001, when he left to join Swan Housing Association as an Assistant Director.

Over the last ten years he has taken a leading role in delivering some major regeneration and development projects in east London, including the development of some 400 new homes as part of the regeneration of the Poplar area in Tower Hamlets under the Government’s SRB4 programme and the refurbishment of over 4000 existing social rented homes. 

Geoff also led on the regeneration of the Crossways Estate in Tower Hamlets which includes the refurbishment of three 25 storey tower blocks and the provision of around 400 new homes. Geoff and his team are currently involved in some of the largest projects in East London, including the Stratford City Athletes Village.

 

David Pretty

David Pretty  


David Pretty retired as Group Chief Executive of Barratt Developments PLC in October 2006 after 40 years in the industry, 27 of them with Barratt. He is one of housebuilding’s best-known figures, having been active at senior management level for well over 25 years. He has also worked in North America, France and the Far East. In the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2007, he was made a CBE for services to housebuilding.

Mr Pretty was also personally named the UK’s Regeneration Champion in the national Regeneration Awards in December 2006. He has, for many years, actively campaigned to highlight the causes of the housing shortage and the plight of first-time buyers. He contributes regularly to trade publications, is an occasional advisor to Government and on housing issues and is currently co-Chair of an independent review of the planning application process in England.

 

Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons – Chief Executive of CABE


Richard Simmons has been the Chief Executive of CABE since 2004.  He has a Doctorate in Urban History and Urban Economics.  He worked as a town planner before joining the Inner Cities Directorate of the Department of the Environment, advising on regeneration policy. Richard moved to the London Docklands Development Corporation in 1987, leading teams developing masterplans for the development of the Royal Docks and Canary Wharf, building infrastructure and selling land for development. 

In 1993 he became Chief Executive of the Dalston City Challenge regeneration company in Hackney, where he led a five-year programme of economic, social and physical renewal before becoming Director of Development and Environment for the new Unitary Council of Medway.

 

Professor Steve Wilcox

Professor Steve Wilcox


Professor Steve Wilcox joined the Centre for Housing Policy in 1996 from the University of Wales at Cardiff and was awarded a personal chair in Housing Policy at the University of York in 2000. He has a specialist knowledge in the area of housing finance and is editor of the highly respected UK Housing Review (formerly the Housing Finance Review).

His research interests include housing finance and housing policy; housing, work and welfare, housing and the economy; local housing companies and housing statistics.
